MEAL OUT: The Grey Goose (Gilmorton)

Our first meal out at the 'Goose' since Rose's delayed birthday meal in May. This time it was our 28th wedding anniversary that was the cause of our celebration, which unfortunately fell on a Saturday night (so it was plenty busy!). Despite this, the food was perfect, and because it was a set menu we actually had three courses.

Rose had pigeon for starters, while I had pate and toasted sourdough bread. The pate was thankfully fine, not coarse, but it was incredibly strongly flavoured so I didn't eat much of it, especially since there was only a couple of small pieces of toast . Still I was so hungry I was grateful for anything.

Predictably I had the fillet steak (£5 supplement on the £35 bill), but Rose had the Coq Au Vin, both of which were perfect. Finally Rose had raspberry Battenberg which came with a jam tart and raspberry ripple ice cream. I could have had any one of six puddings but plumped for the fried Nutella brioche with fudge sauce and popcorn. It was quite odd, but quite nice, though I wish the cream inside wasn't quite so cold. I wonder if they fried it from frozen?

All in all though the meal was pretty perfect and once again the Goose proved itself utterly reliable.
