MEAL OUT: Marco Pierre White Restaurant / The Electric Bar (Lincoln)

Our fourth (IIRC) visit to the Electric Cocktail bar in Lincoln and all in all a bit of a disaster this time. Because of the hot weather we decided to leave much later in the day and go straight to the bar (booked for 5:30pm), but on arrival we found the elevator wasn't working so we went into the hotel and were informed that the bar was operating on a limited staff because all the people who made the cocktails had been sent home due to a Covid case.

Terrific, but okay... never mind, it's not the end of the world we can still have a couple of drinks in the bar which would take us up to our 7pm booking in the restaurant. Except, when you take away the cocktails it is the poorest stocked bar in Christndom. Flavoured gins and vodkas are all the rage, and yet they didn't have any. Nor did they stock J20s. So we ended up with a diet Coke and a Sauvignon Blanc that they (eventually) managed to rustle up from somewhere in the building (not sure where and why they didn't have any in the actual bar, but...).

So that kinda sucked, so after one drink we asked if we could move our restaurant reservation forward and thankfully they were happy to oblige. Which was good because the waiter was great and from then on it was all good. We both had the steak and ale pie (which was great) and then we shared a very delicious sticky toffee pudding!

I know the Covid thing was out of their control, but I really don't get how their bar can be so woefully stocked; flavoured gins and vodkas really aren't niche products any more, they are everywhere and surely they must get asked for them regularly?
