FLECKNEY: Christmas Tree Festival 2019 (St Nicholas Church)
And so we come once again to the Fleckney Christmas Tree Festival, which means it's only just over a month until 'Carols on the Green' once more, sigh...
I have to say I thought the trees were a bit lacklustre this year, there's usually at least one that displays a sense of humour or some genuine inventiveness enough to secure my vote; but this time I was struggling to pick one. In the end I voted for No11, Mr Tree-Mend-Us (Tremendous). And yes they really did have to spell it out for us because... well who could say why?
I spent £2 having two goes at 'guess the weight of the Christmas Cake', and I'm still not sure I'm anywhere near. Bit of a swizz really since you can only pick weights that other people haven't, though I'm not sure it would have made that much difference.
It's always exciting to see what prizes we can win at the tombola, one time it was a plastic tool for making pom-poms, last year it was a box of Toffifee.... this year it was a small wooden box inside another wooden box, which sounds 'lovely', but it was actually UTTERLY DREADFUL. Honestly, this 'prize' made the plastic Pom Pom tool look like a gift from the Gods, such was the shoddy state of it. Thankfully I passed a skip on the way home and I donated it, which at least saved me carrying it home. At least Rose won a bottle of bubble-bath, which was some small compensation. Very small actually as we don't have baths! But still....
One final point, on the subject of the trees, I hardly think it's appropriate to festoon Christmas trees with 'Poo Emoji' decorations, especially not when they are in a church. Is nothing sacred?
