Our first gig of 2025 and another one at the gloriously convenient Queens Hall in Nuneaton. We actually saw the real Rammstein way back in 2012, and while it's clearly impossible to recreate that kind of spectacle in a hall of this size and without a pyro budget of thousands it has to be said that Rammlied do put a lot of effort into their show.
Mad respect to the keyboard player who performed dressed like an absolute tool, and walking on a treadmill no less... just like the real life Christian Lorenz. He even got to ride in the life raft, carried around the hall by the hands of the crowd. Crazy stuff!
For me however the main issue was that I only knew about six of the songs, which surprised me because I thought the ones I knew were the 'hits'... and also, while the sound overall was very good, the guitars sounded very mushy and the tunes just didn't 'hit' like they're supposed to. When you have very simple music like this it needs to be performed very, very tightly and with a very crisp sound and unfortunately that wasn't the case. The singer did an excellent job of 'being' Till Lindeman though, and his banter with the crowd was amusing.
Alas, by 75min our feet were starting to hurt, add in a lot of people, and a lot of annoying people who can't stand still without going to the bar every five fucking seconds and pushing past you and tall people standing in front of you and we decided to bail before the end. Overall it had some good moments (mainly when they were playing the songs we knew) but it brings home how one dimensional Rammstein really are and I still can't really understand how they are such a huge band.
