MEAL OUT: The Bell (Burton Overy)

 

Another visit to the The Bell at Burton Overy and once again I had my customary scampi, Rose joined me and we also both had the sticky toffee pudding which was enormous and exceptionally sickly! All in all a very nice meal, albeit the place was rather busy and it was quite noisy.

ESCAPE ROOM: Toy Shop (One Way Out - Oakham)

 

Our second visit to 'ONE WAY OUT' in Oakham (we did the 'Yellowbeard's Treasure' room in 2024 but I forgot to post about it here) and again it was a very enjoyable experience. 'Toy Shop' is apparently slightly harder than 'Yellowbeard's Treasure', but we actually found it more straightforward and we managed to escape with 10mins left over this time. Maybe we're just getting better at these puzzles as we gain experience doing them?

One great thing about the rooms here is that they don't shroud everything in darkness and/or smoke. I get that some places want to create an 'atmosphere' but when you are struggling to read clues or to enter codes into padlocks it just becomes frustrating more than anything. Here everything is well lit and pretty clear. Also the clues are well structured and the hints come at just the right rate.

I don't want to say anything about the actual game because I don't want to spoil it for anyone who might visit, but there was a hilarious bit at the start where Tessa dresses up as the owner of the toy shop. How she managed to keep a straight face I do not know...
