MEAL OUT: Fox and Hounds (Knossington)

Our first meet-up with Lee and Su since New Year and a return to the first place we went when they moved to the Rutland area. Absolutely dead quiet on this Friday night, there was us and about two other couples. There was a big Leicester City game on, so maybe people were going to pubs with TVs in. Couldn't fault the food, absolutely top notch steak and a delicious Mango Cheesecake topped off the night.

After the pub we went back to Pickwell House for a few hours, but drove home because of my back. Finally got to bed about 2:50am.

GIG: Meshuggah / The Haunted (Nottingham)

We arrived just in time to hear the last few notes of The Haunted's first track, which I at the time thought was 'Bury Your Dead'. I was quite annoyed about that, but as it turned out it must have been something else because 'BYD' was the second last song they played (before set closer 'Hate Song').

The Haunted were pretty good, even if the sound left a little to be desired, and we had a decent view from pretty near the front on the left side of the stage. But when they played songs I didn't know it was a bit hard to make them out.

We moved to the side for Meshuggah where we had a good view but that odd 'standing to the side of the speakers' sound. At least we could see, which was more than we would have been able to otherwise as the venue was well attended to say the least. Rose was more than a little skeptical about Meshuggah but she seemed to enjoy it after all. They are rather hypnotic and most of the venue seemed to be existing in their own Meshuggah enduced hypnosis, nodding away in their own rhythm...

Adding to the oddness was the dwarf standing in front of us against the barrier, the woman dancing around like a spastic behind us and the guy who came in from the toilets just as the crowd was applauding and who stretched out his arms to soak up the adulation. Rock City was beard central tonight, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like it.

Good gig, amazing lighting and lasers*.

MEAL OUT: The Waterfront (Market Harborough)

Eleven of us (Me, Rose, Steve, Kirsty, Sally, Mark, Amy, Peter, Susan, Emily and Katie) desended upon The Waterfront for lunch and very nice it was too. Rose and I had burger followed by Sticky Toffee Pudding. Much arguing about the bill ensued, with Mark paying in the end (which was very good of him).
