HOLIDAY: Paris

So we figured we'd go to Paris on the Eurotunnel, what could go wrong? No flying, and yet it still took 8 hours to get from home to the hotel.... but once we were there it was okay. I mean the food was pretty cold everywhere we went, and the price for a glass of Coke was a joke, but there were some good things too. Honest!

We visited the 'Catacombs', which was strange and eerie, but after a while it got a bit samey. Still, the perfect place for a Black Metal photoshoot!

In fact there was a horror film shot here after our visit (not that the two were connected) but we haven't seen it. I think it was called 'As Above, So Below'.

We also visited the Arc de Triomphe, which is great except that it has about 900 steps to get up to the top, which nearly killed me. Great view from the roof though...

During a night time walk down the Champs Elysees, we reached Place de Concorde which was festooned with obelisks and fountains, but appallingly badly lit. We didn't even know this fountain was gold until we saw the photograph! Ridiculous and dangerous, frankly!

We visited Sacre Coeur but didn't actually go inside, and first we had to run the gauntlet of the 'string men' - seriously annoying Nigerian pricks who try to wrap bits of string around your wrist and then charge you for it. Considering the public transport wasn't working and my foot was killing me as a result, it's amazing they couldn't catch me, but there you go, float like a butterfly sting like a bee!

One of the highlights of the trip was a visit to a small Dali museum near Sacre Coeur...

At the end of the main part of the Champs Elysees there is a gate called the Carousel...

Unfortunately this are is also populated by 'string men'. At least there weren't any scammers on the boat trip!

When we got off the boat we headed off to Notre Dame...

On the last day we visited the Pompidou Centre, but it didn't open until later and we had to catch the train, so again we didn't get to go inside...

No trip to Paris would be complete without some photos of the Eiffel Tower, which again we didn't actually visit...

And here are some pictures of the Louvre, which (you guessed it) we didn't actually go inside...

We really do suck, but... we did get to see the coolest Swarovski staircase in the world on the Champs Elysees.

Paris then, cold food, overpriced, underlit and largely underwhelming. But it did have some good bits. Although our hotel had the thinnest walls ever and so we were woken up by people leaving for the airport (noisily) at 4am. I don't think we'll be going back any time soon. You must admit though, our list of places that we didn't actually go inside is quite impressive!
